Me and the Groundhog

A. I cannot remember a time when Mr. Phil didn’t emerge to see his shadow and grant us six more weeks of winter. We really shouldn’t be surprised (although I can’t deny that the novelty of the whole thing is still somehow so amusing).

B. My birthday happens to be today, Feb. 2nd. And I must tell you that I understand how Punxsutawney Phil must feel every year on the 2nd, when he emerges from (is dragged out of) his hole and is broadcasted to the world.
Firstly, because for a few years my parent thought it would be hilarious to put ME out on the lawn, and see if I cast a shadow. At the time I wasn’t amused, and actually found it considerably annoying that I had to share my special day with a rodent (since then I’ve grown to embrace the bond that we share, haha). The second thing I feel a connection to with this groundhog, is the attention, the hub bub, the day where all eyes are on him. After all, it is my birthday, I should be receiving such attention. But it does create a starstruck effect, compared to the other 364 days a year when I’m not graced by the glamorous lifestyle of a birthday girl. The upside being that instead of getting cameras and news reporters in my face, I just get presents☺
